History of Hajipur

The history of Hajipur dates back to the era of Mughal Empire when in 1557, Akbar got the information that at the instigation of Mulla Abdulla Sultanpuri, Sikandar Sur had moved down to the plains of Jalandhar Doab and receiving the revenue there. During the end of 1557, the imperial forces marched towards Jalandhar to the Shiwalik Hills and stayed at Dasua in Hoshiarpur District and then moved forward to Nurpur. Subsequently, the Kings of hills who were on the side of Sikandar Sur deserted him and joined Akbar. According to another historical account Hajipur witnessed a great battle between the imperial troops and the troops of Bairam Khan. After some resistance, Bairam Khan surrendered at Hajipur and threw himself the forgiveness of the King Akbar. Later, he was left by the emperor at Hariana and then to Mecca. In the year 1758, the Faujdar of Jalandhar Doab, Adina Beg died near Hoshiarpur and buried there. Thereafter, the Sikhs spread their wings across the entire Punjab state not just to Kiratpur and Anandpur Sahib. During the process, they captured some territories of the nearby places to Hoshiarpur such as parganas of Maniwal, Urmur Tanda, Miani and Sarih in Jalandhar Doab were captured by Jassa Singh Ramgarhia while Prithvi Singh, who was the ruler of Nurpur and Raja Singh, the ruler of Chamba got agreed his administration.

Hajipur city is located at the latitude of 31.266 °North and the longitude of 76.15 °East. It has an average elevation of 288 meters above the sea level. The climate condition of this region is relatively equivalent to its district - Hoshiarpur, which is tropical steppe. The summer season here is very hot while the region remains very cold during the winters. Summers start here from mid March till the end of June. They are followed by monsoon season which remains up to September. The maximum precipitation falls here during August month. Weather remains generally moderate during October and November but with the start of December month, the winter season arrives at Hajipur and lasts up to the first week of March. The month of May is the hottest here while January is the coldest.
